BBM Awards have enabled hundreds of talented young Australians to visit Britain to gain further experience in their chosen pursuits
OBJECTIVES:
To enhance the awardees' career prospects.
To contribute to Australia’s cultural and technical development.
To help to maintain Australia’s historic links with Britain.
The guidelines for selection are:
- Recipients be not more than 23 years of age and residents of NSW or ACT.
- Have reached a standard of excellence in their chosen fields (commensurate with their ages) and are likely to enhance their career prospects by the UK experience.
- It would not be possible for them to finance the project without BBM assistance.
- They are recommended by an approved institution in Australia related to their specialties.
- Satisfactory arrangements can be made in Britain to pursue their objectives.
- They have not visited the UK in the last 5 years.
- They be motivated by a desire to be good ambassadors for Australia and to help to retain historic links with Britain .
BBM has deliberately taken no part in the selection of awardees other than to ask recommenders to give equal importance to guidelines 2 and 6. It was apparent from the outset that experts were needed to evaluate applications and select recipients. There was an immediate and enthusiastic response from all of the institutions concerned.
