Stepping Stone House

Stepping Stone House is a community based out-of-home care service for young people, providing medium-term accommodation for those who can no longer live in their family home.

This service is designed to help those young people often neglected and abused as teenagers who want assistance to take responsibility for their own lives.

Our medium-term house provides this service for adolescents between 14 and 18 years and then progresses them to our Independent Living Program (ILP) or a like program or accommodation.

At SSH, we provide the following:

•  Support to young people and their families with family relationship issues, with the goal of improving relationships and working towards family reconciliation and/or restoration where appropriate.

•  Youth workers deliver day-to-day living skills programs, ensuring a safe and pleasant care environment. Life skill programs focus on budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, social skills, as well as more complex skills including conflict resolution and behaviour management.

•  Practical assistance to access services such as Centrelink, counselling, health and education, and to obtain Birth Certificates, Medicare Cards, Health Care Cards, and other important documents.

•  Referral and access to professionals, government departments, and other services that assist young people in meeting their material, educational, psychological, and/or emotional needs.

At SSH we believe that everyone has the right to a nurturing environ ment which will encourage their personal growth and development with the aim of empowering them to achieve responsible independence.
