BBM Awards
Music, Sport, Technical, Dancing
The idea of travel awards to Britain for young Australians emerged from a desire for part of the Movement's new charitable activities to be allied to its original migration object - to preserve Australia's historic links with Britain.Awards are made in four broad categories - Music, Sport, Technical and Dancing. By 2006 over 700 talented young Australians (from 14 to 23 years of age) had received B.B.M. cash awards. The awards are not intended to meet all costs involved, but to provide a stimulus to the young people concerned and to the organisations and individuals who support them.
UK Technical Awards
Visit Australia for a period ranging from one month to a year
In 1999 the BBM extended its award scheme to young Brits who had represented Britain in the World Skills Olympics. From this group ten young skilled people are selected by UK Skills to receive a BBM award which enables them to visit Australia for a period ranging from one month to a year. This allows them to spend a period working in Australia and time to travel. The recipients cover a wide field of trades - mechanics, engineers, hairdressers, IT specialists, plumbers, stonemasons, painting and decorating etc. The BBM is constantly seeking employers willing to provide short term work experience for these awardees whilst they are in Australia.
Australian Technical Awards
Participate in UK based training and work experience programs
In conjunction with Worldskills Australia, up to 20 young Australians in similar technical and trade categories are assisted to participate in UK based training and work experience programs. The Movement also contributes to local child and youth charities. A scholarship plan to assist young country people, disadvantaged by the rural recession, to undertake tertiary education at agricultural colleges was commenced late in 1986.
