Tiarne Mallaby

2019 – Agriculture

Tiarne is using the COVID-19 delay of her scholarship adventure to connect with other scholars and to continue studying and learning more about her passion that is agronomy:

“I just started a Diploma of Agronomy with Longerenong College in Victoria, so that will be keeping me busy. I reached out to Ardina Jackson, a previous scholar, to get her advice on applying and got accepted.

I’ve been completing my Diploma of Agriculture with Tocal after my Certificate IV with them, now I’m going into Agronomy.

I’m interested in all areas of Agronomy, but I love the whole paddock to plate scenario which is why I looked into crops at Tocal. When I first started studying my Certificate III I thought I would be more interested in livestock but then we had pastures, and I loved hearing about soil and how different pastures worked. Then we went on a crop tour and I’ve never enjoyed a trip so much.

Then in doing my Certificate IV crops was my favourite unit, along with soils. My cropping lecturers were great and really pushed me to further my horizons so I looked into Agronomy.

After discussing it with Ardina at the awards night I knew that’s what I wanted to get into. I love helping people so if I could guide farmers to producing quality crops and pastures to then feed their livestock or promote better investment then I’ve done a good job.”
