World Pulses Day

They are packed with nutrients and protein, making them an ideal source of protein particularly in regions where meat and dairy are scarce.

Low in fat and rich in fibre, pulses can lower cholesterol and help in the control of blood sugar.

Their nitrogen-fixing properties improves soil fertility, which increases and extends the productivity of the farmland.

Pulses can even help combat climate change: Growing pulses means less synthetic fertilizer, and a considerable reduction in greenhouse gases during the manufacturing and application of this type of fertiliser.

The UN chose February 10 to be World Pulses Day.
