Another successful collaboration with Giant steps and TAFE NSW!
Last year BBM Youth Support co-ordinated a project through Worldskills Australia and TAFE NSW to have much needed drainage installed in a play area at Giant Steps.
After this collaboration was so successful for all parties, we moved onto the next project. Giant Steps identified their need for storage cabinets and desks for the classrooms and offices, and we received an enthusiastic response from Lidcombe TAFE cabinet making teacher Dion Iori to take on the project. Not only do Giant Steps benefit by getting safer, custom furniture but this project forms part of Dion’s student’s assessment and provides them with practical training and on the job experience. The students were able to solve problems that they encountered and work as a team to create some amazing cabinetry for a great cause.
A few weeks ago Dion and his students installed the desks for the Giant Steps offices.
On Thursday 4th September the cabinetry was installed into the kitchen. After many hours of great work, you can see in the photos below that the results were fantastic. The students even went as far as engraving the Giant Steps logo into the splashback behind the sink! See photos below.
