Cellist Waynne Kwon had an amazing journey to the UK, Germany and Austria

Cellist Waynne Kwon had an amazing journey to the UK, Germany and Austria in late 2013 thanks to his BBM Youth Support Music Award. As he says “It was a very valuable trip that allowed me to meet leading cello teachers and soloists who were able to further improve my cello playing and knowledge.”

“The trip also gave me the opportunity to audition for and be accepted into the three most prominent musical institutions in the UK (Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music).” Whilst experiencing the different cultures Waynne was fortunate enough to learn from prominent cello teachers such as Jo Cole, Mats Lidstrom, Josephine Knight and Peter Bruns to name a few. “My final audition was in Vienna for the world renowned Soloist and Maestro Heinrich Schiff. Having admired his energetic yet musical and brilliant playing, it was a great honour and privilege to have met him in person, let alone play and audition for a spot in his class.”

After due consideration Waynne has decided to take up the offer of a full scholarship at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he will also have loan of their fine Ruggieri cello. BBM Youth Support is proud to have contributed to the development of such a talented young musician.
