“I want to learn from current leaders in sustainable agriculture and consumption as well as from those who are ahead of the game in capturing data and analysing it, fostering advanced technology and innovation.”

Edwina Warby is one of our 2021 BBM Australian Industry Scholars. In 2019 she was awarded a BBM Global Industry Scholarship in agriculture, but when COVID shut down all international travel, we took the opportunity to offer her a chance to pursue professional and personal development here in Australia.

“I believe that education is power, I constantly like to be challenged and increase my knowledge whilst helping further my career and enhancing my own personal growth.”

“My love for the agricultural sector, particularly the cattle industry, was nurtured during my upbringing on an isolated mixed farming and cattle property in South-West Queensland.

“Our family property has been drought declared for several years, which has contributed to my belief in the importance of improving our sustainable farming and agricultural practices.”

“Australia’s primary industries have a strong tradition of being innovative and adaptive to new challenges. However, further investment in research development and innovation is vital for ongoing growth and improvement in the productivity, profitability and sustainability of Australia’s agricultural industry.”

We’ve asked all our scholars to take every step to become practical, holistic leaders of the future who are aligned to the United National Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), supporting our vision of a sustainable, significant Australia.

“I’ve committed to SDG #2 – Zero Hunger. I am currently working for a cloud-based software program that links data along the beef supply chain to create industry insights, with the ultimate aim of increasing industry productivity and long-term health, securing Australia’s agricultural future.”

“The software instantly summarises and analyses on-farm production data from crush-side collection units, combined with data beyond the point of sale (feedlot and carcass) to turn it into key insights.”

“The data is cleaned, refined, and disseminated through multiple algorithms to create informed discoveries that improve production and profitability. It can also accurately form predictions and forecasting models for future performance.”

“I’m helping take the fear out of data for producers, extracting key insights and allowing my industry to make informed decisions around KPI’s – from genetics through to carcass across all levels of the business.”

 “Ultimately though, we want to see farmers have cost-effective access to low carbon, carbon-neutral and biodiversity-friendly markets, and certification schemes. This is because sustainability is not only compatible with productivity but essential to it.”

 “With a deep understanding of agribusiness, I am planning a career in cattle production, focusing either in feedlots or the meat sector. I’ll live in rural and regional Australia and contribute to the growth and resilience of these communities.”
