Exciting updates from 2013/14 Music awardees: Lillian So and Timothy Murray
BBM Youth Support is delighted to congratulate Violinist Lillian So on her recent success learning her craft from some of Europe’s finest tutors. Lillian’s travels led to places such as Manchester and London in the UK, Munich and Heidelberg in Germany as well as Salzburg in Austria.
Lillian was fortunate enough to learn from very talented musicians, Pierre Amoyal, Ulf Hoelscher and Stephanie Gonley to name a few. Lillian has said “I am so grateful to BBM for their aid in funding my trip to Europe, especially the United Kingdom.” “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that has enabled me to form connections with many of Europe’s most outstanding violin soloists, orchestral musicians and teachers.”
Since her return Lillian has secured a place performing as a casual member in the Tasmanian Symphony. She considers this a big next step in her dream of becoming a full time orchestral musician. BBM Youth Support would like to once again congratulate Lillian on her achievements and wish her very well in her incredibly bright future. We are sure this is not the last we will be hearing from Lillian So. To read Lillian’s full report Click Here.
More great news in the form of BBM Music Awardee Timothy Murray’s recent trip to the UK. Timothy went to the UK in November 2013 and arrived home in January 2014 and BBM Youth Support is thrilled to hear that he had an amazing experience and was able to further develop his skills with the Bassoon.
“The trip gave me a new perspective on my approach to playing and allowed me to reach a level of playing which I previously thought was unattainable.” Since returning to Sydney Timothy auditioned for Associate Principal Bassoon of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and was one of three finalists along with Mark Gaydon, Principal Bassoon of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
“Unfortunately the position wasn’t awarded however I was very proud of this achievement considering my age and I know that I wouldn’t have been able to reach this level of playing without the support of BBM.” BBM Youth Support wants to congratulate Timothy on his recent achievements and wishes him the very best with all his future opportunities, we can’t wait to hear more from this very talented young man.
