G’Day, gents, I have just recently signed up to the website so will be checking the forum from time to time. I arrived in Oz back in 1956 aboard the SS Straithaird.25th November, 2018 at 12:00 am #13798
I arrived 1978. A Mr Hicky picked us up from Sydney airport and drove us to a hostel in Burwood. At the BBM office in Burwood he rang around companies to find us jobs, this resulted in myself getting a position in Email Westinghouse at Riverwood. Accommodation in Hurstville was then found for me and I was on my own. As I left I was told to promote the image of the movement by working hard and not to leave the job for at least 6 months.25th November, 2018 at 4:14 pm #13799

Stuart Gearey – Orontes 1957 – If you, Pip Hardy, are the Pip referred to by David Tindall in his book “A Ten Pound Tourist”, then “G’day”. That book is a ripper and tells the story just so well. Every detail strikes a chord with my own BBM Aussie Adventures. Yes! Where have all the Little Brothers gone. Now is the time to bring our names together so that contact can be made. Our emigration may have been a short period of time in the grander scheme of things, but it was highly influential in the character building and influence on the rest of our lives. We had a “Paddy” in our Orontes group. Where is he now? Dave Jackson, who was posted to Goodooga in Woop Woop. How did he get on? Brian Hawkins! Did he return to the UK? I know from the contacts made at the last Gold Coast Reunion, that all want to meet up, not only with other Little Brothers in general, but especially with the shipboard mates who battled the monsoons on the high seas together. May good health and a Good New Year be enjoyed by all!!!29th January, 2019 at 10:39 am #14073
Stuart Gearey – Orontes 1957 – I was surprised that I could not find David Tindall on the registered list. I have good reason to seek copies of his “A Ten Pound Tourist” book. It is an entertaining and insightful read.31st January, 2019 at 12:51 pm #14121

Hi Peter and Pip, I think we are all dying out, that’s the reason. At least 7 out of our group of 15 have gone to God. We did manage to keep in touch over the years (excluding two missing, never found) and had a grand re-union in Sydney in 2011 to celebrate 50 years in Australia,we even were able to contact our escort officer (Peter Foster) but he wasn’t able to even remember much about the trip to Aus.in 1961 and didn’t attend. It’s thanks to Barry Biddle (now deceased sadly) and his wife Sue who were able to put together a full history of our group in a book form (I have it safely stored in my home in Perth) and gave out individual personal copies to each of us at the 50th re-union. I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong, our group on the Fairsky in 1961 are the only group of Little Brothers to keep in contact over the years. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the two missing lads (Ron Taylor and Peter Ortega),please let me know as it will complete the full picture and history of our group. Cheers for now John18th February, 2019 at 11:11 am #14231
Hi John, I know you’ve been on the Big Brother Movement Facebook page and we post there regularly. Lots of the Little Brothers have discovered that and I think they find it easier to use than the forum. We don’t have contact details for Peter Ortega or Ron Taylor, sorry, though I have noted that you’d like to be in touch with them if they contact us. We are planning a reunion in WA soon, you’ll see that on an email and the website and Facebook soon. Regards, Melanie
