Making organic vegetables economically sustainable, powering Australia with renewable energy, and creating an Australian sound library are just three of the innovative ideas that the 2021 BBM Global Industry Scholars put forward.
The eight 2021 BBM Global Industry Scholars and eight Highly Commendeds share their visions and their commitment to sustainability and innovation for a better Australia.
As an electrician, I want to help pave a better way for the next generation. I want to make Australia a greener place to live, so by developing new products and techniques, it will make it an easier, more cost and time efficient transition to a more renewable, sustainable future.
I want to learn about several innovative techniques emerging overseas in recent times. These include the use of live foley and composition as a performative element in theatre along with the incorporation of binaural sound techniques – simulated distance and space through headphones – used in both pure audio productions, like podcasts and radio plays, as well as live theatre.
We need more farmers and better farmers. Farmers with skills, agile minds, perspective and drive entering the business of farming and doing it sustainably. Through my BBM Scholarship I will be able to bring ideas, contacts and proven methods from overseas to Australian farmers to benefit the whole sector.
I would also like to learn new ways of making the Horticulture industry more sustainable in the areas of pest and disease management through environmentally friendly, renewable strategies in production horticulture. I am also interested in exploring innovative ideas to make landscaping more sustainable through irrigation systems in gardens and saving water.
I hope to travel to grow my landscaping knowledge and ability, especially around sustainable materials and the use of plants for environmental health. Plants are especially important in any landscape projects as they produce oxygen and attract bees and other insects that sustain our ecosystems.
Great minds have shaped the form of dance in different ways and their innovation has lead to the art-form that we know and love. Growing up, I always looked towards dancers who had accomplished great things as an inspiration. With the aid of this scholarship this is what I hope to become for the next generation of dancers.
My career goal is to never stop learning! I have a real passion to learn from industry experts especially on sustainability and also innovation and then share my learnings and practises with my growing horticultural community. I want to continue to be inspired and one day be able to inspire those around me.
In order to make sure Australia’s orchestral landscape has a future, we need to focus on creating innovative projects to engage the wider public with a specific focus on youth… I feel it is my duty to inspire the next generation of orchestral music lovers through my work in education – just as my teachers did for me.
The performing arts provide a platform for people to express the parts of themselves that are perceived as ‘different’. If I can do one thing through my career, let it be that I continue to foster this environment and be a mentor for young people struggling to be their true selves.
To say that I love my job is an understatement, and I enjoy the ability to share my passion and enthusiasm on a daily basis. I look forward to every opportunity to be a role model in any way I can, but especially for women within the trade, or any trade for that matter.
I know that continuing to build a sustainable portfolio career in music will require me to further develop all aspects of my work as a musician. I not only want to continue to grow as a performer, but also as a teacher and researcher.
I fell in love with the humble cow at an early age and, without realizing it, began a journey across Australia pursuing my passion for the dairy industry. I hope to help my industry achieve the sustainability commitment areas set out by the Australian Dairy Sustainability Framework.
Sustainability has long been argued as the key momentum for innovation. In the performing arts industry, Europe’s innovation has been driven by sustainability and had profound impacts on the international industry already.
I want to contribute to innovation and sustainability in the fledgling Australian hemp industry. Hemp has a huge range of end-product uses including clothing, paper, building materials, biofuels, nutritional products, compost, biodegradable plastic and animal bedding.
I would like to learn how other people/countries are combating the rising concern with animal welfare and help implement change or improvements to the livestock industry in Australia. Developing ideas on how to overcome issues like mulesing and implement new practices to minimise welfare issues with livestock is important for my future livestock career.
Europe is the heart of professional companies, choreographers, stars and creativity. The chance to audition, be audience to, and perhaps someday be employed by one of these institutions would ultimately be the opportunity I am seeking as I pursue my future.
