Little Brothers at Maritime Museum

The Big Brother Movement and the thousands of Little Brothers who came to Australia are now commemorated at the Maritime Museum in Sydney:

To start a new life

Between 1925 and 1982 the Big Brother Movement sponsored over 12,000 young British men, “Little Brothers”, to migrate to Australia. After six weeks at sea the early migrants found work on the land, and later migrants, often arriving by plane, pursued careers in the cities. While some eventually returned to the UK, many settled in Australia, building careers, raising families and becoming part of their communities across the country. Many Little Brothers enlisted in the forces during the Second World War, with some making the ultimate sacrifice.

To this day BBM continues its mission to create life changing opportunities for young people to travel overseas for work experience, building a better future for themselves and for Australia.
