Started life in Australia as a jackeroo on a 150,000 sheep and cattle station in NSW. Served four years in the Australian Fleet Arm, including two tours aboard HMAS Melbourne attached to 816 Squadron followed by a 35-year career in civil aviation. Retired in 2000 as a senior check and training captain on the Boeing 747 fleet.
