Madison Riley named Champion Handler at the Royal Cornwall
Madison Riley (2014/15 Lord Forres Agriculture Awardee) has recently sent us an update on how her trip is going and we could not be more thrilled to hear that it is going really well.
“I left Australia on April 15th to start my UK experience, thanks to BBM.
I arrived in the UK on Thursday afternoon (after a 24hr plane trip) and settled in with my hosts, Joy & Angus Cottey, in Witheridge (Devon). I went straight to work to prepare a heifer for a yearling show at Hatherleigh on the Saturday. I competed in 3 classes and was fortunate to win 4 rosettes and was placed Reserve Champion Handler.”
“Things are done a lot differently over here and wearing the dress code that is expected in Australia, people certainly knew I wasn’t from around there. I have competed in 4 Royal shows so far – Devon County, Bath & West, Royal Cornwall and Three Counties and have been very happy with the results. Even being named Champion Handler at the Royal Cornwall and qualifying for Young Handler of the Year.”
“I will be travelling to Wales on July 20th to the Royal Welsh show, assisting with a Stud showing both Angus and Herefords, I am looking forward to that. I have had the opportunity to visit many Devon Cattle Studs all over the UK, meeting the owners and learning how they farm.”
It is really great to hear how well Madison is performing in the UK and how much she is gaining from the experience and we wish her all the best for the rest of the trip.
