Max Day – Awardee Update

Group Shot 2Max Day – 2014/15 BBM Youth Support Ballet Awardee

“The past nine months have been a life changing experience that I have been so privileged to enjoy through this Award. I would like express my gratitude to the incredible work which BBM does for young people by allowing them to reach their potential.

During September last year I was fortunate enough to have been accepted into the first year at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance with a part scholarship. The school year began in early September and since then I have been busy doing a variety of classes. These include Ballet, Pas de deux, virtuosity, contemporary in styles influenced by Cunningham and Martha Graham, Pilates and Conditioning class as well as critical studies where we discuss the mechanics of the body specifically for the dancer and the psychological process we use to improve for our own development.

Through this Award I have experienced a variety of emotions. While it has been challenging to be away from my home in Sydney as well as completing all my practical and written assessments, the Rambert School community has been supportive and welcoming, which has made this process easier.

The last term of the school year will be a steep learning curve for me. Through the experience of the older students, I can see the pathway to a professional dance career, which is highly beneficial to my career development. This overseas experience has allowed me to grow as both a dancer and a person.”
